TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State freshman cornerback Chauncey “Chuck” Kennon has been dismissed from the Seminoles football program, bringing an abrupt end to the former highly touted recruit's time in Tallahassee.

The dismissal was attributed to “conduct detrimental to the team,” according to a statement attributed to a Florida State spokesperson.

Arrest and Booking Details

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office booking record, Chauncey Alvoid Kennon was arrested on October 12, 2026, and booked that evening. The record lists an alleged offense date of October 11.

The booking record lists three charges: aggravated fleeing to elude, false imprisonment, and resisting an officer without violence.

These are allegations, not findings of guilt. Kennon is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The booking record does not provide a detailed account of the alleged incident. FSU’s stated reason for the dismissal remains “conduct detrimental to the team”.

A Promising Career Cut Short

Kennon arrived at Florida State as one of the most highly regarded prospects in the Seminoles' 2026 recruiting class.

A standout at Booker High School in Sarasota, Florida, Kennon generated considerable attention throughout his recruitment before choosing the Seminoles.

His addition was viewed as an important recruiting accomplishment for head coach Mike Norvell and the Florida State coaching staff, who have struggled to consistently secure highly touted high school prospects.

With his athletic ability and potential in the secondary, Kennon was expected to develop into a significant contributor for the Seminoles in the coming years.

Instead, his time with the program has ended during his freshman season.

Limited Playing Time

Despite the expectations surrounding his arrival, Kennon had yet to establish a significant role in Florida State's defensive rotation.

As a freshman, he was still competing to earn playing time. While not even dressing out for the first few games, he did record a snap against Virginia.

What His Departure Means for Florida State

While Kennon's departure may not affect anything this year, it represents a notable loss for the program's future.

It’s not often you can get a five star like Kennon to come play for your program. This dismissal represents another recruiting whiff for Mike Norvell and staff.

Norvell's Five-Star Recruits: Where Are They Now?

Since taking over at Florida State, Mike Norvell has struggled to turn some of his most highly regarded high school recruits into consistent contributors.

A look at the Seminoles' five-star signees and their production at Florida State illustrates the concern.

Sam McCall — Defensive Back (2022)

  • Recruiting rating: Five-star prospect
  • Games played at FSU: 8
  • Total tackles: 5
  • Pass breakups: 1
  • Forced fumbles: 1
  • Kick return yards: 142
  • Outcome: Transferred after one season.

McCall arrived as one of the biggest additions to Florida State's 2022 class but never established himself as a regular defensive contributor.

Hykeem Williams — Wide Receiver (2023)

  • Recruiting rating: Five-star prospect
  • Games played at FSU: 17
  • Receptions: 21
  • Receiving yards: 267
  • Receiving touchdowns: 2
  • Outcome: Entered the transfer portal in 2025.

Williams was one of the most celebrated recruiting victories of Norvell's tenure. Despite flashes of potential, injuries and inconsistent production prevented him from becoming the offensive weapon many expected.

Chauncey “Chuck” Kennon — Cornerback (2026)

  • Recruiting rating: Five-star by 247Sports during his recruitment; four-star in the final composite rankings
  • Recorded playing time: 1 defensive snap against Virginia
  • Significant defensive production: None
  • Outcome: Dismissed during his freshman season.

Kennon's departure adds another name to the list of highly regarded recruits who have left Florida State without making a significant impact on the field.

The Bigger Picture

Across these three highly touted signees, Florida State received a combined 21 receptions, 267 receiving yards, two receiving touchdowns and five tackles, along with limited special-teams production from McCall.

None developed into a sustained impact starter for the Seminoles like a five star should for a power four program

While recruiting rankings do not guarantee college success, the lack of production from these major recruiting victories raises questions about Florida State's ability to retain and develop elite high school talent.

For a program trying to turn this around on the field, losing a talented freshman due to “conduct detrimental to the team” just adds to the problems this team has.

What's Next?

As for Kennon, his next steps remain unclear. No future destination has been publicly announced.

In The Endzone will continue covering Florida State football and any confirmed developments regarding Kennon's departure.
