CLEARWATER, Fla. — Florida State defeated South Florida 10–1 in a 12-inning fall exhibition at BayCare Ballpark. Coy Clements earned In The Endzone Player of the Game honors with a home run, a double and two RBIs.

The game is final. Below are the scoring plays and notable performances from the Seminoles’ matchup with the Bulls. Because this is a fall exhibition, statistics and game procedures are unofficial and the format may differ from a regular-season game.

Pregame Notes

The matchup is the third of Florida State’s four fall events. The Seminoles opened their exhibition schedule against Jacksonville and North Florida at Dick Howser Stadium last weekend. FSU will conclude fall competition with the Garnet & Gold All-Star Game on Friday, October 30.

South Florida is entering its second fall exhibition after facing Florida on October 16. The Bulls added 28 players during the offseason to go with nine returning letterwinners. Sophomore infielder Jack Lutz and left-handed pitcher Dominic Pontbriant are among USF’s notable returners.

Florida State defeated USF 9–1 during the 2026 regular season, but Saturday’s exhibition gives both coaching staffs an opportunity to evaluate new players and experiment ahead of the 2027 season.

Game Updates — Final

FINAL (12 innings): FSU 10, USF 1

Florida State completed the 12-inning exhibition with a 10–1 win. Cade O’Leary handled the final inning without allowing a run and used his curveball to strike out the last batter. FSU finished with 12 hits and no errors; the Bulls totaled three hits and committed one error.

End 11: FSU 10, USF 1

USF remained nine runs behind after Jordan Martinez’s inning of relief. Martinez threw 15 pitches and picked up both of his strikeouts on changeups.

End 10: FSU 10, USF 1

A runner left aboard did not hurt Spencer Krasner, who added another zero to the scoreboard in the tenth. His two-inning outing included two strikeouts. For the second out of the frame, Will Bavaro slid toward the third-base line and fielded the ball on his backhand.

Middle 10: FSU 10, USF 1

The Seminoles reached double figures in the tenth. Gavin Byrd, a freshman, drove a single through the center of the infield to bring in FSU’s tenth run.

End 9: FSU 9, USF 1

Krasner’s first inning ended without a run despite a USF runner reaching scoring position. The freshman caught two hitters looking at strike three before Blaydon Plain went up for a catch near the right-field wall to end the ninth.

Top 9: FSU 9, USF 1

Freshmen combined for Florida State’s next run: Ben Kuglitsch crossed the plate after Deacon Avery’s deep fly to right was caught for a sacrifice fly. FSU’s advantage grew to eight runs.

Top 8: FSU 8, USF 1

Two more Seminoles scored on Cooper Malamazian’s third hit, giving FSU five runs in the eighth and an 8–1 cushion.

Top 8: FSU 6, USF 1

The gap in right-center produced another run for FSU as Coy Clements doubled home a teammate. Clements had hits in both of his at-bats to that point, with a double, a homer and two runs driven in.

Top 8: FSU 5, USF 1

Kaden Frommelt increased the margin from two runs to four with a double along the left-field line that scored a pair of runners.

End 7: FSU 3, USF 1

Emery Dawkins needed one out to escape a threat with two runners aboard. A ball hit to shortstop supplied it, ending the seventh with both USF runners stranded in scoring position.

Bottom 7: FSU 3, USF 1

The Bulls ended FSU’s no-hit bid and shutout on the same swing. A double with two away brought home their first run, and Dawkins subsequently entered with two men on base.

End 6: FSU 3, USF 0

A quick sixth from Otto Espinoza preserved the shutout. Espinoza faced the minimum, used 10 pitches and registered a strikeout.

Top 6: FSU 3, USF 0

Called on to pinch-hit, Clements supplied a solo shot over the left-field fence. His sixth-inning homer put the Seminoles three runs ahead.

End 5: FSU 2, USF 0

A hit-by-pitch ended the FSU staff’s perfect start, but Donovan Thiery prevented further damage. He used a changeup for a strikeout and got a fly ball to center, leaving USF’s first baserunner on base.

Top 5: FSU 2, USF 0

Malamazian started the scoring sequence with his second hit, a single into right-center. Jace Estes moved him over with a sacrifice bunt, and Ty Peeples brought him home with a ground-ball single to right.

End 4: FSU 1, USF 0

Thiery opened his appearance by setting down all three hitters in the fourth. The freshman threw nine pitches, including a called third strike for one of the outs.

End 3: FSU 1, USF 0

Kevin Mebil completed three perfect innings, with ground balls accounting for six of his nine outs. Malamazian also looked steady at shortstop, making accurate throws across the infield. Mebil’s completed outing: three innings, no hits, no runs, no walks and three strikeouts on 34 pitches.

End 2: FSU 1, USF 0

Mebil followed his opening inning by striking out each batter he faced in the second. He was perfect through six hitters, with 23 pitches thrown, and was set to continue into the third. His line at that stage was two innings, no hits, no runs, no walks and three strikeouts.

Top 2: FSU 1, USF 0

A hit-by-pitch put freshman Genson Veras aboard, and Malamazian converted the opportunity with two outs. His double along the third-base line scored Veras for the afternoon’s first run.

End 1: FSU 0, USF 0

Three ground-ball outs gave Mebil a clean opening inning. The FSU starter needed nine pitches to get through USF’s first three hitters.
