My name is Tyler Burnam, and I started In The Endzone because I’ve loved FSU since I was a kid. I wanted to build a site where fans could get reliable news without having to pay for it, while sharing my passion for all FSU sports with other fans. We cover breaking news, recruiting, stats, and reactions, from football to baseball, basketball, and beyond. For now, the focus is Florida State, but I’d like to eventually expand the site to other schools. Thank you for your support!

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State freshman cornerback Chauncey “Chuck” Kennon has been dismissed from the Seminoles football program, bringing an abrupt end to the former highly touted recruit's time in Tallahassee.
The dismissal was attributed to “conduct detrimental to the team,” according to a statement attributed to a Florida State spokesperson.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office booking record, Chauncey Alvoid Kennon was arrested on October 12, 2026, and booked that evening. The record lists an alleged offense date of October 11.
The booking record lists three charges: aggravated fleeing to elude, false imprisonment, and resisting an officer without violence.
These are allegations, not findings of guilt. Kennon is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
The booking record does not provide a detailed account of the alleged incident. FSU’s stated reason for the dismissal remains “conduct detrimental to the team”.
Kennon arrived at Florida State as one of the most highly regarded prospects in the Seminoles' 2026 recruiting class.
A standout at Booker High School in Sarasota, Florida, Kennon generated considerable attention throughout his recruitment before choosing the Seminoles.
His addition was viewed as an important recruiting accomplishment for head coach Mike Norvell and the Florida State coaching staff, who have struggled to consistently secure highly touted high school prospects.
With his athletic ability and potential in the secondary, Kennon was expected to develop into a significant contributor for the Seminoles in the coming years.
Instead, his time with the program has ended during his freshman season.
Despite the expectations surrounding his arrival, Kennon had yet to establish a significant role in Florida State's defensive rotation.
As a freshman, he was still competing to earn playing time. While not even dressing out for the first few games, he did record a snap against Virginia.
While Kennon's departure may not affect anything this year, it represents a notable loss for the program's future.
It’s not often you can get a five star like Kennon to come play for your program. This dismissal represents another recruiting whiff for Mike Norvell and staff.
Since taking over at Florida State, Mike Norvell has struggled to turn some of his most highly regarded high school recruits into consistent contributors.
A look at the Seminoles' five-star signees and their production at Florida State illustrates the concern.
Sam McCall — Defensive Back (2022)
McCall arrived as one of the biggest additions to Florida State's 2022 class but never established himself as a regular defensive contributor.
Hykeem Williams — Wide Receiver (2023)
Williams was one of the most celebrated recruiting victories of Norvell's tenure. Despite flashes of potential, injuries and inconsistent production prevented him from becoming the offensive weapon many expected.
Chauncey “Chuck” Kennon — Cornerback (2026)
Kennon's departure adds another name to the list of highly regarded recruits who have left Florida State without making a significant impact on the field.
The Bigger Picture
Across these three highly touted signees, Florida State received a combined 21 receptions, 267 receiving yards, two receiving touchdowns and five tackles, along with limited special-teams production from McCall.
None developed into a sustained impact starter for the Seminoles like a five star should for a power four program
While recruiting rankings do not guarantee college success, the lack of production from these major recruiting victories raises questions about Florida State's ability to retain and develop elite high school talent.
For a program trying to turn this around on the field, losing a talented freshman due to “conduct detrimental to the team” just adds to the problems this team has.
As for Kennon, his next steps remain unclear. No future destination has been publicly announced.
In The Endzone will continue covering Florida State football and any confirmed developments regarding Kennon's departure.
The turning point: the play call and the response.
FSU jumped out to a 14–0 lead, and the offense looked dominant early. The Seminoles were moving the ball and had a chance to take a three-possession lead. On fourth-and-goal from the two-yard line, Mike Norvell decided to go for the touchdown instead of taking the field goal.
Going for it wasn’t what bothered me most. It was the play call.
Why not trust Ousmane Kromah to get two yards? Or give a receiver a chance to catch the ball in the end zone? Instead, FSU threw a screen to true freshman Jasen Lopez behind the line of scrimmage. Louisville stopped him for a loss and took over at its own three. On the next play, Isaac Brown ran 97 yards for a touchdown. FSU’s offense then went three-and-out, gaining just two yards.
| Team | Points | Offensive yards |
|---|---|---|
| FSU | 6 | 232 |
| Louisville | 44 | 507 |
The numbers show how far the game slipped away. After FSU took its 14–0 lead, Louisville outscored the Seminoles 44–6 and outgained them 507–232. Louisville scored 35 straight points before FSU reached the end zone again.
Even after the failed fourth down, there was time to respond. Instead, FSU’s next five possessions ended in punts. Three were three-and-outs. The offense that looked comfortable early couldn’t put together another scoring drive until the fourth quarter.
What concerned me most was how the team looked during that stretch. It felt like the effort and physicality we saw early started disappearing. Louisville deserves credit for fighting back, but FSU looked like a different team once something went wrong.
I can’t tell you what was being said inside the locker room. But watching that response makes me question the culture being built in this program. A failed fourth down shouldn’t be enough to knock a team out of its game. Neither should one long touchdown.
To me, the Florida State standard means being tough, responding to adversity, and wearing your opponent down. Friday night, I didn’t see enough of that after the early lead. Over the past few years, that toughness hasn’t shown up consistently enough.
The screen was one bad play. How FSU responded to it was the bigger problem.
